The Mission of the Huntington's Disease Society of America (HDSA)is to promote and support research on Huntington's Disease to eradicate the disease,
assist people and families affected by Huntington's Disease to cope with the problems presented by the disease, and educate the public and health professionals about Huntington's Disease.

Description:
HDSA Upstate NY Chapter is one of 30 chapters nationwide. We have no paid staff; our volunteer Board of Directors and committees coordinate our programs. Most of our family services are provided by the HDSA Center of Excellence at the HD Family Center at the University of Rochester, including medical and counseling services, access to research participation, and genetic testing.

History:
HDSA was started 35 years ago by Marjorie Guthrie, widow of folksinger and activist Woody Guthrie. Over the years, HDSA has evolved into a network of more than 30 chapters and affiliates working to fulfill the Society's mission. The Society serves as a primary resource and referral tool for families across the Nation. HDSA is also in the forefront of HD research, supporting more than 17 labs across North America and Europe as scientists work to unravel the mystery of HD. The Upstate NY Chapter provides information and referral and raises funds to support HDSA research and family services across New York state.
