To prepare and inspire young people for a global economy. We promote learning and utilizing skills necessary to be successful not only in the workplace, but in life.
Description:
What Junior Achievement volunteers do is become role models for children in an elementary, middle or high school classroom. For 30-60 minutes per week for five, eight or twelve weeks, we ask that our volunteers share with the children their hobbies, their work experience, their volunteerism and their belief in being all that you can be. We provide curriculum/activities for the volunteer so that they have something to present in the classroom that ties into successful skills in life: i.e. making decisions, problem solving, working in a team, planning etc.
Junior Achievement has classes available in the city of Rochester, East Irondequoit, Greece, Pittsford,Penfield, Spencerport, Brockport, parochial and private schools. We have over 500 classrooms filled each year with enthusiastic volunteers like you! With your support we can grow our reach!
History:
Junior Achievement was founded in 1919 by Horace Moses, President of the Strathmore Paper Company. His mission is still ours today. To educate and inspire young people to value free enterprise, business, and economics to improve the quality of their lives. Junior Achievement started in Rochester in 1968. It began with the high school company program and has expanded to include middle and elementary school programs.
