Description:
Hope Hall is a private alternative school serving children in grades 3-9 who come from school districts throughout the greater Rochester area. Hope Hall, certified by the New York State Department of Education Board of Regents, provides an opportunity for "at risk" or "educationally stranded" children to become successful life long learners. The school utilizes the Mastery In Learning Program (MIL) to teach the full New York State curriculum, organizational skills, and social skills in a non-traditional way. MIL, used successfully since 1977 to help children with ADD, ADHD, and Central Auditory Processing problems, is designed to meet the needs of children who have consistently experienced frustration and failure in a traditional classroom setting. Hope Hall's small class setting of 12 students ensures that every child receives individualized help. In addition, Hope Hall's nurturing, non-threatening, creative atmosphere encourages students to take risks in learning and helps them reverse the cycle of academic failure. Students once considered to be educationally "at risk" experience academic success, not only at Hope Hall, but also in traditionally taught classes in high school and beyond.
