Our mission is to provide a safe place for elementary school children after school where they can receive help with their homework, do crafts, play games, and socialize with other children and adults.
Description:
Our program operates out of a house. We currently serve 24 children in grades 2-5.Our goal is to expand to help more children in the future. Our program continues to be a success because we have dedicated volunteers that come to help Monday through Thursday from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM. The children that we serve are charged a monthly fee 0f 20 dollars ,some are subsidized through scholarships. We also serve some children where English is a second language. Volunteers provide our students help with academic, language and /or social skills. Two Doors has a daily goal of accomplishing a 2 child to 1 adult ratio. We would love to have enough volunteers to work 1 to 1 with the children that need individual attention. We have a comfortable setting that feels like home. We have snack, a recreation period, do homework and then visit and participate in different craft, game, and computer activities.
History:
Two Doors started as an outreach program connected to Bethany Presbyterian Church in Greece. Now it has been over 9 years and we have been our own 501 c 3 for 2 years. Two Doors has continued to help children, some in the same family. Two Doors has continued to be successful due to the never ending support of the volunteers. In the summer Two Doors opens to help students accomplish summer reading requirements while giving them a safe place to have fun and visit with friends.
