Literacy Genesee /Orleans
| Last updated on September 16, 2008 |
We believe everyone in Genesee and Orleans Counties should have an opportunity to learn to read. Literacy Genesee exists to improve the reading, writing, math, and/or conversational English speaking skills of the residents of both counties.
Description:
Literacy Genesee/Orleans trains volunteers from within the community to tutor learners by offering free, learner centered instruction in improving basic skills.
History:
Literacy Genesee (formerly Literacy Volunteers of Genesee County) was formed in 1977 when area librarians determined there was a need for literacy services in Genesee County.
In 2003, the program expanded into Orleans County with offices in Albion and Medina and the name changed to Literacy Genesee/Orleans.
