Grace Urban Ministries (GUM)is an issue focused, ecumenical faith-based agency working to improve family self-sufficiency and promote neighborhood revitalization in the Northwestern section of the city of Rochester. We do not proselytize and are non-judgmental in approach.

Description:
Grace Urban Ministries (GUM) is a professionally managed, neighborhood-based 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization. We serve the Maplewood and Edgerton neighborhoods in the city of Rochester. Our programs are designed to improve economic and educational opportunity, as well as increase resident involvement to help address quality of life issues. We offer after-school programs and tutorial services, job and computer training, case management services, food and clothing assistance, youth summer lunch programs and health education. We work with residents to organize block clubs and neighborhood watches. GUM also organizes community events like bike rodeos and job and housing fairs. In 2003 GUM responded to over 5,200 requests for service. GUM is an active participant is several community initiatives including NBN Sector 2, the Gateway Committee and the City's 2010 Renaissance Stewardship Council.

History:
Grace Urban Ministries (GUM) was established in 1995 to help meet the growing needs in our neighborhood. At that time GUM was a part of the Grace United Methodist Church, located on Driving Park. In 2001 GUM moved from Grace Church to 858-860 Dewey Avenue, were it is currently located. Now operating as a independent faith-based non-profit organization, GUM has close partnerships with many churches, government agencies, foundations, businesses and community groups.
