We believe that a positive art experience can change a person's life. We are a community-based not-for-profit that educates, encourages and inspires all people to create and enjoy the visual arts. With a strong emphasis on the under-served youth of the area, our programs use art to strengthen the community by fostering a cross-cultural understanding and developing creative outlets for personal expression.

Description:
Our organization provides more than 140 classes, workshops, lectures and open studio space to over 1000 adults and 150 youth each year. Our main areas of artistic focus include photography, ceramics, letterpress, bookbinding, calligraphy, and papermaking. In addition, we provide free arts programs to 100 city youth each year. These intensive art experiences allow students to develop a sense of their potential and allow the community to see the vitality and resources in its youth.

History:
The Genesee Center for the Arts & Education has been providing our programs since 1972. Our location, an historic firehouse built between 1895 and 1905, provides over 12,000 feet of artistic space in which our students learn and work.

We are located on Monroe Avenue, one block west of the intersection of I-490 and Monroe Avenue. Parking is available on the street or in the Blessed Sacrament church parking lot directly across the street from our building.
