PRALID's mission is to assist individuals with brain injury and developmental disabilities, including autism, in achieving a challenging, stimulating and dignified life.

Description:
We are a young, rapidly-growing agency with facilities located primarily in the southeast quadrant of Monroe County. However, we have plans to expand into other areas in the very near future.

We currently operate four individual residential alternatives (IRAs) with two additional in development; two day programs - one for consumers funded under the NYS Department of Health Traumatic Brain Injury Waiver Program and one for those funded under the NYS Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities Program - and an evening recreational program.

We also provide in-home services to individuals with disabilities to enable them to remain in their own homes when possible.

Other services offered include life skills training to help our consumers live as independently as possible, vocational services to assist them in obtaining and maintaining integrated employment, behavioral services, pet and music therapy.

History:
PRALID was founded in 1994 by the parent of a young man with a brain injury. She was seeking more adequate services for her son than the existing system provided. The Agency opened with one IRA which was home to four young men with brain injury. Based on the Agency's success with these young men, they were soon asked to provide services to additional hard-to-serve people. In 2005 the Agency opened it's first IRA for individuals with autism and has plans to open additional homes in 2007.
