Finger Lakes Addictions Counseling & Referral Agency (FLACRA) is dedicated to the care of those whose lives are affected by alcohol and substance abuse.

Description:
FLACRA is a private, non-profit agency, committed to serving anyone seeking help in our outpatient or residential services, regardless of ability to pay. Our philosophy is that addiction is a treatable disease. We approach these persons who seek out help with understanding, dignity, respect and with the expectation that they can recover, can enjoy lasting health and can lead productive, meaningful lives. We know that the whole family is affected, so we provide an array of services designed to meet the needs of the family. Our staff is made up of skilled and knowledgeable professionals, with a strong commitment to the needs of the individual. Included are experienced administrative personnel, counselors, social workers, nurses, Emergency Medical Technicians, and a physician.

History:
FLACRA was established in 1973 operating out of storefronts and church basements until 1980 when the agency opened headquarters in the building that once housed nurses for the old hospital in Clifton Springs. At that time another level of care was needed to handle the area's increasing rehabilitation needs such as a crisis center and halfway house. Since that time FLACRA has expanded operations in Geneva, Newark, Penn Yan, Watkins Glen. Besides the crisis center, outpatient, youth program, and community residence programs, FLACRA provides individual and group counseling services to inmates in the Ontario, Wayne and Yates county jails. FLACRA is licensed by the NYS Office of Alcholism and Substnace Abuse Services. It is funded in part by Ontario, Seneca, Schuyler, Wayne and Yates Counties; the NYS Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Serives; the United Ways of Seneca, Wayne and Schuyler, yates and Ontario Counties; voluntary contributions and contracts.
