Camp DayDreams develops, challenges, and empowers Rochester?s urban youth to serve themselves, family, and community as vibrant individuals and dynamic citizens. We accomplish this through our fun and unique year-round, multi-year, recreational, social, and educational program. Our, ?6 X 6 Camp & Grow? program is 6 days of residential summer camp and 6 school-year family focused reunion events, all offered at a nominal cost, serving youth who would otherwise not have this opportunity.
Description:
Camp DayDreams provides the children with an opportunity to try a variety of camp activities. The DayDreams campers participate in six activity areas at camp: The Waterfront, Athletics, The Creative Arts, Adventure, Preforming Arts and Educational Activities. Camp DayDreams is organized to foster a sense of community among the children. We stress the importance of community both within the cabin groups and as a camp as a whole. Each night one cabin has a chance to present the Camp DayDreams Town Meeting, which addresses a specific community issue. The Camp DayDreams staff are caring volunteers, many of whom are in educational and child-care related fields, who freely give their time and expertise for the children. Camp DayDreams is an amazing success. This life changing experience of fun, growing, learning, sharing, and dreaming at Camp DayDreams is made possible through the generosity and vision of many caring individuals. Due to this visionary network, hundreds of Rochester area youth have had this unique opportunity to participate in an educational youth development program that combines year round support over multiple years, with an excellent residential summer camp experience. And best of all, because of people like you; the program is essentially free to the children and their families.
History:
Camp DayDreams is inspired by the magic of children growing at summer camps. At residential summer camps children's lives are transformed. The mission of Camp DayDreams is to enable children, who would not ordinarily have the opportunity, to participate in a residential summer camp experience and year-round support programs. Camp DayDreams is incorporated as a 501(c3) Not-For -Profit Organization. One of the components of the Camp DayDreams program is the year-round support provided to the participants in the summer program. These programs operate on two levels: On one level the children connect directly with Camp DayDreams at small group meetings and family-style reunion events, on the other level the children participate in one of the year-round programs of our partnering agencies. Each year Camp DayDreams partners with a number of local youth development agencies in Rochester, New York. To better serve children, Camp DayDreams has partnered with the following organizations: The United Academic Athletic Program (UAAP), The James Madison School of Excellence (JMSE), Lifetime Assistance, The Society for the Protection and Care of Children (SPCC), Catholic Family Center, Inner City Boys and Girl Scouts, The Southwest Area Neighborhood (S.W.A.N.), The Parks and Recreation Department Leaders Program of Rochester, The Wilson Commencement Park, The ArtsReach program of Stonewood Village in Henrietta, St. Joseph's Villa, ASC, and others. The response to Camp DayDreams is so positive that we have had a waiting list every summer of operation.
