Epping Recreation Department

Last updated on September 15, 2008

For over 20 years, the Epping Recreation Department has operated a variety of successful programs for elementary-age students. These programs provide a safe, nurturing place for children to attend quality programming beyond the school’s hours of operation. The Epping Recreation Department strives to help youth reach their full potential by allowing them to explore their physical, social and intellectual interests in a safe and fun environment.

Description:
We offer school age programming 245 days a year for an average of 5 hours per day on school days and 10 hours on no-school days. Over the last three years we have increased enrollment by 30% in all of our programs. During the school year we have 50 children enrolled, with 35 children attending daily. During the summer that number increases to 65 children per day, with 125 children enrolled. Due to this recent growth we have reached the point of capacity at our current facility. The Recreation Department is working with the Elementary School to relocate our program to the school building.

History:
The department has offered before-school and after-school programs, school vacation camps and extended summer vacation programs over 30 years. We currently serve over two hundred children per year. All Epping residents in first through fifth grade eligible to attend the program. Our staff includes a director who has been with the program for over three years, a program coordinator who has over twenty-eight years of experience in elementary education, four college graduates who all work in the Epping School District, one high school student studying child development and a PlusTime NH AmeriCorps member who is taking graduate classes in community development. The department is overseen by of a board of voluntary Commissioners who meet once a month to review and discuss relevant issues. The Recreation Commission, along with the Board of Selectmen supervises the program’s budget.
