Our mission briefly is to aide the community in any helpful way, including, but not restricted to veterans and their families.
Description:
The American Legion Family of Post 51 in Epping, which includes the Auxiliary and the Sons of the Legion aides the community in various ways. Every year the Auxiliary puts on an Easter and Christmas party for the children of the community. Last year expanded it to an all day event, the afternoon being for the 'tweens' in the community. We have also donated presents to the St Charles Orphanage, and military families whose Dad's or Mom's are currently deployed. We donate gift baskets to needy families at Thanksgiving and Christmas, and visit the Manchester Veterans Hospital for bingo and snacks. We have assisted the Epping Historical Society in maintaining the DAR park in Epping Center. We would like to become more involved in the community. We are always willing to provide volunteers where needed, but at the same time we can always use more volunteers.
History:
The American Legion was chartered in 1919 as a patriotic, mutual help,war-time veterans organization. The Epping Post is just a small part of this community organization that now has nearly 3 million members, men and women, and nearly 15,000 posts worldwide. The National Headquarters are located in Indianapolis, Indiana with additional offices in Washington,DC
