The mission of the Eliot Community Service Department is to enrich the community through quality recreation programs, parks and facilities; promote healthy, active lifestyles; and respond to the recreation and leisure needs of residents with professionalism and dedication.

Description:
ECSD strives to provide a wide range of recreation and leisure programs that meet the needs and expectations of the community, from toddlers through senior citizens. ECSD services nearly 4,000 individuals through involvement with over 150 programs and events throughout the year. Some of the types of programs we offer include: youth and adult sports leagues; youth summer camps; KidsP.L.A.Y, an after-school program; senior outings; special events, including a summer concert series, Winter Carnival, Halloween party, Easter Egg Hunt, and more. Plus, we hold a number of fundraisers throughout the year including a party cruise with the Isles of Shoals Steamship Co. and a Golf Classic at the Portsmouth Country Club.

History:
ECSD has existed since July 1997. Prior to 1997 the department was a volunteer Parks and Recreation Committee, operating a limited budget. Since then, the department has seen tremendous growth with program expansion and capital improvement projects.

Specifically, the department has been involved in several local parks projects in recent years. This fall, we are constructing a new playground at the Eliot Boat Basin, which will open in Spring 2007. We also recently opened our renovated playing field at Frost Tufts Park. Additionally, we continue to work toward the design and construction of a Community Center in Eliot.

The ECSD office is located on Dixon Road in the Center of Eliot, just off of State Road (Route 103). The office is a white house directly across from the Eliot Elementary School and next to the Eliot Police Department.
