Touring Actors Company

Last updated on November 10, 2007

The Touring Actors Company has a two-part mission. We bring actors (mostly teens) to the general public in the form of travelling plays that are presented at schools, theatres, fairs, festivals, camps etc. We also offer educational opportunities for students of all ages interested in theatre and related arts.

Description:
Touring Actors Company travelling group (teen division) presents several plays a year available to tour to seacoast area fairs, festivals, schools, libraries, and other events. We have offerings that include Shakespeare, musicals, classic stories and children's “participation” plays. We perform mostly in the summer because our students are in school, although we hope to add a professional division soon. This is accessible theater often performed out doors, or in locations that make it easy for a population to enjoy theatrical presentations, who might not otherwise see them.
We do original works whenever possible, and seek sponsorships and funding to enable any student with aptitude and interest to participate.
We also offer classes for students (preschool-adult) to study theatre and related arts. Currently, classes include acting, creative writing, cartooning, juggling, theatre dance, film and television acting, and scripting.

History:
We were formed in January 2005, and obtained federal non-profit status in May 2005. We presented 40 performances of 4 different plays in 2005. Our plans for 2006 include 6 different plays that will perform in repertory style from the time they open (Feb- May) through November of 2006, and then we will perform a holiday show in December. Classes run in 12-week sessions Sept - June and then we offer summer camps. The directors managed a similar organization under the auspices of another arts education center in 2002/2003 prior to leaving to create the Touring Actors Company.
