The Exeter Day School is a non-profit, open corporation dedicated to providing quality early education to children in the greater Exeter, NH area on a non-discriminatory basis at an affordable cost. To that end the school relies to a significant degree on volunteer assistance, primarily from current and past parents, for extra-curricular activities, fund-raising events, and an active tuition assistance program. Based on its assessment of community needs, the school is currently using all of its resources to provide appropriate pre-school programs for children ages three through kindergarten level.

Description:
We off preschool and kindergarten to 165 children. We offer extended day care hours for families that need it and we have a a tuition assistance program to make it affordable for everyone. All of our teachers have a bachelors or masters degree and our aids have credits in early childhood education. The school is run by a Board of Directors comprised of 9 parents in the school elected by the corporation. We offer the children a wide variety of experiences including field trips away from the school.

History:
The doors opened in 1936 with a program for five year olds. They added one grade a year until 1939. The school was incorporated in 1939 as an educational non profit institution in NH. In the 1940's they offered K-5. In 1946 they added an addition to help with overcrowding. In 1953 they began to phase out its elementary grades and expand its' kindergarten and nursery classes. By the 1970's they offered four kindergartens and four nursery classes. In 1976 there was a major set back caused by a fire. They rebuilt and opened the next fall. In 1986 they put on another addition due to overcrowding. In 1988 and Extended Care Program was initiated to meet the needs of working mothers. In 1994 a Summer Camp Program was started. The Day School has cut back to one kindergarten class and now offers 14 nursery classes.
