The Adult Learner Services Program of Rockingham County provides free, confidential, one to one and small group instruction in basic reading, writing, math, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), and preparation for the high school equivalency test(GED), to adults in our local communities. Instruction is provided by volunteer tutors who receive training and materials to support them as they help adult learners achieve their individual educational goals.

Description:
Tutoring sessions happen at a time and a public place that is mutually convenient. Many adult learners who were not successful at learning basic skills in a classroom are able to flourish with the individualized instruction of a tutor.
The literacy skills gained through the tutorial program enable adults to live healthier lives that are more productive. Students are able to access healthcare/safety information. Students who are parents in turn become more involved with in their children's education. Employers report students who work with a tutor are able to retain or advance in their positions. Adult Learners are more informed and involved citizens in their communities.
