Our Mission: OdysseyNH inspires youth and families to improve their lives by overcoming substance abuse, trauma and behavioral difficulties to become contributing members of their community.
Description:
OdysseyNH (ONH), formerly known as Odyssey House Inc., has been in operation for more than 38 years. The mission of ONH is to inspire youth and families to improve their lives by overcoming issues related to substance abuse. ONH offers a variety of treatment opportunities including residential programs for adolescents in Hampton and Rochester, a recovery-oriented residential and rehabilitation program for substance abusing pregnant and parenting women in Canterbury, and New Hampshire’s only 24-hour-staffed staffed transitional facility in Hampton. The OdysseyNH Academy is our educational facility which ATC and PACE residents attend and offers a state accredited high school education while focusing on recovery.
In September 2007, ONH had the distinct privilege of opening the state’s first and only Recovery High School at OdysseyNH Academy in Hampton. This ground-breaking state-of-the-art program combines highly effective substance abuse treatment with a top quality state-accredited education.
The long-term vision of the organization is to develop an array of services that broaden its non-residential offerings for youth and families dealing with recovery from substance abuse and co-occurring disorders.
ADOLESCENT THERAPEUTIC CENTER (ATC) • Hampton
The ATC’s population includes both male and female adolescents between the ages of 13 and 18 who are struggling with family, mental health, educational, behavioral and/or substance abuse problems. The program is designed for youth and their families who need individualized, intensive treatment. The program can accommodate up to 30 residents. Residents attend school at the OdysseyNH Academy just around the corner on High Street. In addition to an array of group, individual and family treatment, substance abuse services include evaluation, relapse prevention, and educational groups. The average stay is approximately seven months.
PACE in Hampton • Hampton
The PACE program offers a short-term treatment environment for adolescents who need a comprehensive out-of-home evaluation leading to recommendations for the court, family and school. The evaluation process includes a thorough substance abuse assessment, the Global Assessment of Individual Needs – Intensive (GAIN-I), administered by a LADC (Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor). Other assessments include psychiatric, psychological, educational, behavioral, and family. In addition residents and families are offered individual and group counseling, overseen by a licensed psychologist, along with substance abuse-focused prevention and treatment groups. The residents attend school at the OdysseyNH Academy in Hampton. The average stay is up to 45 days.
BLUE HERON INN • Hampton
Blue Heron Inn (BHI) provides community group living for teens, many who also attend the Odyssey Academy, for whom returning home is not possible. Many of the BHI residents have co-occurring disorders and receive mental health care from a collaborative relationship with Seacoast Mental Health Center. The Blue Heron provides a safe, supervised and predictable environment to support youth seeking to become responsible, productive adults while accessing supports and services from our community.
RECOVERY SCHOOL AT ODYSSEYNH ACADEMY • Hampton
In September of 2007, the agency opened New Hampshire first Recovery High School at the OdysseyNH Academy. The school is a private day school for students working on recovery from alcohol and other drugs, and/or co-occurring disorders. In addition to the Academy’s certified teachers, the school’s staff includes a dually-licensed clinician (LADC and Mental Health) who provides individual, family and group therapy, and assessment services focusing on substance abuse and mental health issues. There is also a bachelors-level counselor working with youth on school, family and community issues with a 24/7 therapeutic reach.
ODYSSEYNH FAMILY CENTER • Canterbury
Founded in 1994, the OdysseyNH Family Center is a long-term residential treatment program for N.H. women who are pregnant, or have young children under the age of five, and are struggling with substance abuse. The program forms a unique therapeutic community where women, living with their children, learn to embrace sobriety, overcome self-defeating behaviors, gain confidence in their parenting skills, and become productive members of society. The program utilizes an Evidenced-Based Practice of “Seeking Safety,” which helps women recover from trauma, substance abuse, and other co-occurring disorders. The average length of stay varies between four and nine months to solidify their recovery and the strength and confidence to move forward with their goals.
OdysseyNH is a member of several national professional organizations including Child Welfare League of America, and it is accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Services for Families and Children. This certifies that OdysseyNH programs meet the highest national standards for quality service to troubled youth and their families.
History:
OdysseyNH (ONH), formerly known as Odyssey House Inc., has been in operation for more than 37 years. The mission of ONH is to inspire youth and families to improve their lives by overcoming issues related to substance abuse. Our founding mission-to treat alcohol and drug addicted individuals-has expanded to meet the needs of a changing society.
OdysseyNH has grown significantly in the past ten years, adapting programs to meet the challenges and needs of troubled youth, young adults, and families. Our clients, who are primarily New Hampshire residents, come to us with increasingly complex needs. To that end, the organization has become diversified, offering an array of services including diagnostic, therapeutic (residential, out-patient, home based) education, transitional living, and outreach services including the provision of substance abuse prevention and intervention programs. All OdysseyNH programs create environments in which success is reflected in participants' willingness to take responsibility for their own healing, learning, and growth.
