Protecting our water resources..... Saving a place for wildlife..... Conserving our working farms and forests..... All these are essential to our way of living and quality of life.
Description:
Moose Mountains Regional Greenways is a membership-based non-profit organization that works to conserve and connect the most special natural areas of northern Strafford and southern Carroll counties. We work with willing landowners to create voluntary land preservation agreements. MMRG helps negotiate terms, identify project partners, and locate needed funding. MMRG organizes, promotes and hosts workshops, nature walks and other events about the need for and benefits of land conservation. MMRG also develops and distributes educational materials about conservation tools and strategies.
History:
Moose Mountains Regional Greenways was founded in 1999 by conservation commissioners, planning and zoning board members from the New Hampshire communities of Brookfield, Farmington, Middleton, Milton, New Durham and Wakefield. Our group envisioned connecting islands of conservation lands to form corridors or "greenways" linking conservation lands throughout northern Strafford and southern Carroll counties. We named our new organization Moose Mountains Regional Greenways after the mountain range central to our region. Today this grassroots, membership-driven organization represents a dynamic collaboration between community leaders, private landowners, resource managers, and public and private conservation entities.
