Our mission is to prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. We aspire to help girls embrace the magic of girlhood, and to understand the power within that makes each of us valuable and unique.

Description:
The two words that best describe Girls on the Run are "FUN" and "RUN". Every aspect of our program is geared towards making girls feel good about who they are. Although we use running games as our teaching tool, the programs are non-competitive and girls are encouraged to walk (or even cartwheel!) when they get tired.
Our goal is to reduce at-risk behaviors such as teen pregnancy, eating disorders, and substance abuse. The 10 week programs, offered in many New Hampshire communities, are open to girls age 8-10 and 11-13. Our programs meet 2 times per week,an hour and a half each time, at local fields or tracks.

During the GOTR program, participants explore many issues ranging from nutrition and health to assertiveness and body image. Each lesson is filled with fun and engaging running games. By the end of a program the girls will have designed and implemented a community service project. Their final goal is to complete a community 5K (3.1 mile)event. It's amazing to see!

History:
Girls on the Run International opened in 1995. The founder, Molly Barker, envisioned a society of girls who embraced the joy, and power of being a girl, rather than the emaciated MTV images that are now so prevalent in American culture. Since its inception, GOTR has experienced overwhelming growth. The program has been featured in Runners World, Parents Magazine and many other publications. Our New Hampshire chapter program opened in February 2001, and has experienced similar growth and attention. So far, roughly 400 girls have completed the GOTR program here in New Hampshire.
