Mission:
The Hampton Child and Family Program (HCFP) provides a comprehensive, developmentally appropriate preschool (The Village Preschool) dedicated to ensuring kindergarten readiness for local area children. HCFP also offers free and reduced scholarships to lower income families and provides an extended day care program, before and after kindergarten care, parent education programs and information and referral to services that would be of help.
Description:
Our programs are active, creative and child-centered. Our goal is to make each child feel secure, happy and safe to explore in his/her environment. Your child's positive self-concept is our primary focus.
To develop emotional, social, physical and intellectual growth, we offer center activity choices as well as a variety of special programs such as music and storytelling. We capitalize on your child's creativity in both structured and unstructured play as we develop a variety of thinking and generalizing skills.
Group activities allow the child to practice language and social interaction skills, to expand concepts and to nurture the thirst to learn. To make sure that your child's individual needs and strengths are addressed, we work hard to keep in close contact with you throughout the year.
HCFP provides services to children and their families without regard to race, religion, color, national origin, sex, or marital status.
History:
The Hampton Child and Family Program was started in 1994 as an offshoot of a state-wide SUCCESS-BY-SIX initiative. This program was designed to serve the needs of Hampton families by providing an affordable, developmentally appropriate preschool for 3, 4 and 5 year olds and parent education opportunities. The preschool was designed, with the assistance of the Hampton kindergarten teachers, to ensure that all local children could receive a quality preschool education to ensure kindergarten readiness.
During the 1996/97 school year, HCFP began offering an extended day care program for preschool children and before/after kindergarten programs, in response to the needs of working families.
During the summer of 2005 the board of director's, teachers, and community volunteers spend countless hours preparing our new location at 200 High Street. This new location offers a safer environment for everyone to enjoy.

Overall Experience
My son wnet to village preschool for two years. I was not a volunteer.
 |
My sons social skills were greatly enhanced and he was eager to learn as well as go to school because of the wonderful people who work and volunteer there. They make learning fun and made my son feel as comfortable as at home. He still talks about pre-school everytime we pass the building and all his fiends. He still thinks of the teachers as "friends". posted by SandyM on May 10, 2005 |
