Description:
Our mission is to strengthen the communities of the Greater Seacoast region of New Hampshire and Maine by creating diverse housing opportunities, utilizing innovative approaches to development, practicing strong stewardship of our housing, and leading with visionary advocacy.

We envision a Greater Seacoast where every community offers "housing for everyone."

History:
The Housing Partnership was created by the Seacoast United Way Affordable Housing Task Force in 1988, in response to the shortage of affordable housing. Since then, we have acquired, rehabilitated/built 227 units of affordable housing. We currently supervise management of 162 apartments in ten Seacoast communities including Dover, Eliot, Exeter, Farmington, Lee, Newmarket, Rochester, Rollinsford, Rye, and South Berwick.

In 2000, we expanded our work beyond "bricks and mortar" to include the first time home buyer education program, Homeward Bound, (open to the public).

The Housing Partnership was also instrumental in forming the Workforce Housing Coalition of the Greater Seacoast. This group of business, government and community groups advocates for the responsible increase in regional workforce housing, believing there is a link between the availability of diverse housing options and economic vitality.

Directions:

From Interstate 95: Coming from 95 North or South take Exit #3. Make a right onto Rt. 33 towards Portsmouth. Continue on Rt.33 crossing over a small bridge. Once over the bridge you will see a cemetery on the right, make your first left onto Islington Street. Upon turning left you will pass a ball field. Go .5 miles on Islington Street. Look for a small yellow house on the left and turn left immediately before. Watch for a bright yellow mailbox marked 1555 and our name on top. Continue to the end of the driveway crossing over the railroad tracks. From Downtown Portsmouth: Continue down Islington Street going away from town. 1555 Islington is .6 miles past Plaza 800 on the right. Or, watch for the water tower on your left and we are .1 miles past the tower, turn right after the yellow house, watching for a bright yellow mailbox with our name on top of it. Continue all the way to the end of driveway crossing over the railroad tracks.

Volunteer Turned Intern Turned Staff

Initially I was impressed by the mission and the achievements of this organization. My interaction with the executives and staff, through my volunteer experience, was very positive. I was then able to complete an academic internship with the organization which resulted in my being offered a permanent position-I gladly accepted.
