The mission of A Safe Place is to break the cycle of Domestic Abuse by providing crisis intervention, support services, education and advocacy to survivors, their families and the community.

Description:
A Safe Place has been committed to bringing hope to our community for over 27 years. Through our 3 offices and one shelter, we offer a wide range of services including a 24-hour hotline, emergency confidential shelter, one-to-one support, legal and social service advocacy, support groups, community education for kids and adults and much more. Signs of hope aren't always obvious. For the thousands of people in New Hampshire who are victims of domestic abuse each year, a simple sign of hope can make a world of difference--however sometimes these signs can be hard to find.
You can help us provide hope to survivors in many ways--by offering your time, talents and resources. Helping to spread the word, educating yourself, or volunteering with us are just a few ways to make a difference. The list goes on of how you can be a beacon of hope for someone in desperate need. With your help, we can end the cycle of domestic abuse and make every home a safe place.

History:
For over 27 years, A Safe Place has offered domestic abuse support services to victims of intimate partner abuse in Strafford and Rockingham county. Our offices in Salem, Rochester and confidential emergency shelter provide services to thousands of people each year.We work with women and men of all walks of life who have experienced physical, emotional, verbal, sexual, mental or financial abuse/control by a current or former partner. We like to say it's our business to go out of business!

Overall Experience    Experience rating
Absolutely fantastic; I had a wonderful experience

I worked as an intern with the Outreach and Education coordinator for the summer, and it was wonderful. I got to help her give presentations on abusive relationships at area schools, translated the agency brochure into French, updated the various brochures for LGBTIQ survivors, and rewrote part of the volunteer training manual. It was an excellent balance between putting the skills I've learned at school to use and learning more about what I can do with my degree after I graduate. Everyone I worked with was extremely personable and inclusive of me, and readily answered any questions I had about what nonprofit work was like. Overall, volunteering here was an excellent experience.
