The Rochester Youth Safe Haven (RYSH) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) after-school program for underprivileged children who live within Cold Spring Manor and the surrounding neighborhoods. RYSH is funded by Milton S. Eisenhower Foundation through the Rochester Housing Authority. The Foundation’s goal and vision is to actively assist community development throughout the country and to develop and implement youth investment programs through the Youth Safe Haven Initiative.
Description:
On a daily basis, RYSH provides an after-school homework lab which is designed to promote academic achievement among children 6-18 years old. Our program gives children a safe place to pursue their academic goals and a positive environment which they can challenge themselves mentally, socially and physically. Ultimately, we would like to provide the children with a safe environment which they are free to explore opportunities that they would never have a chance to during their everyday life.
History:
In October of 1999 the Rochester Housing Authority (RHA) collaborated with the Rochester Police Department to open a police mini sub-station which is located in the center of one of RHA's communities. Soon afterward, with the help of the Milton S. Eisenhower Foundation, an after-school program was formed (RYSH) to serve the children who resided in the community. The Eisenhower Foundation strives to help low-income neighborhoods develop and implement youth investment programs through the Youth Safe Haven initiative.
