To provide through a volunteer network, support and assistance to help the elderly and disabled maintain independence in the community and in their home environments.
Description:
Community Caregivers of Greater Derry has been in existence for the past 15 years. The organization has focused on the needs of the elderly and disabled in our community. The intent of the program is to help those who have difficulty maintaining independence and quality of life because they are elderly, temporarily or permanently disabled, recuperating from illness or dealing with chronic illness. Services such as friendly visiting, grocery shopping, light chores and medical transport are offered through an incredible network or caring and committed volunteers.
History:
In 1988 members of several churches and community organizations came together for the purpose of creating a volunteer network which would provide support and assistance to help people maintain independence in their home environment. Initially, the organization began with 5 volunteers and 8 clients and has grown in the past 15 years to over 200 service recipients and 150 volunteers!
