The mission of the Seacoast African American Cultural Center(SAACC) is to celebrate the lives and achievements of black people, with emphasis on the unique story of African Americans in the Seacoast, and to infuse young people with an appreciation of their history and culture.

Description:
SAACC is a cultural center and our purpose is to provide:

A central location for information and resources concerning the African American

A cultural resource center for such activities as networking

A library and research facility

Tutoring

A repository for papers & artifacts

A forum for meetings,exhibits, various events and
Other services for the Seacoast community

History:
SAACC was founded in August 2000. The center's board is comprised of 3 at large members and representatives from the following organizations:
African American Resource Center;Blues Bank Collective
Kwanza,Inc;NAACP;New Hope Baptist Church;Portsmouth Black Heritage Trail;Seacoast Martin Luther King, Jr Coalition;Seacoast Men's Friendship Group and
Triple 8 Traveler's Lodge #32

Over the past three years SAACC has presented to the community many, many programs and events. To list a few:

Opened the center with "The Underground Railroad Connections", a quilt exhibit and lecture.
African Mask Exhibit
Honored WWII and Korean War Veterans with a program and reception.
Collaborated with the Currier Museum of Manchester when they presented the "American Masters Exhibit", from the Smithsonian Museum in Washington.
Hosted a Community Poetry program with local residents reading theirs and the poetry of others.
Dubuted or launched two books by local authors _"Black Portsmouth" and "Child Out of Place.
Hosted a reception for two Chiefs from Ghana.
Presented an exhibit in honor of the 100th Anniversary of the Portsmouth Peace Treaty
and so much more..
