We are a community theatre organization dedicated to providing a means for interested parties to participate in the arts and to have a venue for the displaying of their talents. We maintain a belief in true volunteerism and full inclusion of all interested parties.
Description:
The Garrison Players is a local community theatre organization which is completely volunteer. We perform all types of plays from murder mysteries such as "Murder at Rutherford House" to musicals like "Man of La Mancha" and "1776", and dramas such as "The Glass Menagerie" and "Laura". Our participants come from all walks of life - businessmen and women, lawyers, real estate agents, teachers, students to name a few, and we encourage anyone interested in theatre to join with us in putting on our shows. We also provide a venue for other artists to display their wares and for other non-profit organizations to utilize our space.
History:
The Garrison Players was founded 54 years ago and is the second oldest continuously performing community theatre organization in the state. We have been fairly nomadic over these 54 years, performing wherever we can find a stage and storing our flats, costumes and related materials in our members' basements, garages and attics. 19 years ago, we purchased the Hiram R. Roberts Grange hall in Rollinsford with the intent of restoring it and turning it into a community arts centre in which we could perform and which would also provide performance space to other area non-profit groups. We opened to the public with a revival of the production of "1776" in the fall of 2004 and we have been going strong ever since. We were fortunate to qualify for and receive a grant from LCHIP (Land and Community Heritage Investment Program) which gave us the financial boost we needed to see our dream become a reality. We still have to install a 10,000 gallon tank and pump for our sprinkler system and we need to expand our parking lot to better accommodate our audiences. Jonathan Wilson undertook the landscaping of our lot for his Eagle Scout project, for which we are very thankful. We still have a brick drive underway in the hopes of raising extra money - $50 per brick that will be inserted into our "Walk of Fame". And, as always, we need volunteers to help with show, usher, sell concessions and, most importantly, serve on our board and committees.
