Fill the Gap is a telephone helpline staffed by caring and compassionate, trained breast cancer volunteers. Most people with cancer will tell you they experience their greatest fear and concern during that initial time from first awareness of a potential problem through entry into treatment. A "gap" in support, information and resources for those facing these weeks of uncertainty adds to an already fearful experience. As a Fill the Gap telephone volunteer peer counselor, you will have an opportunity to contribute something of value to those facing a potential or actual breast cancer diagnosis. You will listen to caller's concerns and help them identify their emotional and informational needs, refer callers to a number of appropriate local and national resources and provide support to the person, their family and friends. This can be done from the comfort of your own home, using your own phone which connects to our toll free number and at a time that you choose. Together, we can "fill the gap" for our neighbors and friends with our compassion, experience and information.
Fill the Gap training is required to become a certified volunteer peer counselor. Our Training Program will help you understand your role as a peer counselor, introduce you to the skills and techniques you will be using in your conversations with the helpline callers and provide basic information on resources. This opportunity is sponsored by: Fill The Gap, Inc.
