If you can read, write and do math, you can tutor an adult who can't
powered by United eWay

Last updated on June 17, 2008

Share the joy of learning with an adult in your community!

Help someone learn to read, write, do basic math, prepare for the GED(high school equivalency diploma) or speak English. Volunteer tutors work with their students to assist them in achieving their goals. Students range in age from 18 through 97.

Volunteer tutors receive training, materials and support. Tutors are matched with an individual from their own community and meet at a mutually convenient time and public location(library, community center, church, etc.

Typically tutors meet with their students once or twice a week for one to two hours each time.

Volunteers are asked to attend a minimum of one orientation session, either individually or in a group. It is highly recommended that volunteers attend a three-session series of trainings. Trainings are offered 2-3 times a year.

All volunteers must have a high school diploma and be over 18 years of age.
