The Unity Council of Topeka is a non-profit corporation whose mission is to invite, educate, promote, and celebrate diversity throughout our community by having a festival in and around Shawnee County each year.
Description:
Unity Council is composed of volunteers from the community. Our purpose is to inform and educate people of the differences of the cultures of the minorities in our community, in the attempt to foster understanding and acceptance. We due this with an annual Celebration of Cultures Festival each fall that is composed of cultural displays, ethnic food sales, a Job Fair, children's arts and crafts, teen discussion groups, live entertainment, etc. The Festival is free, and the only costs involved would be if the attendee(s) desires to purchase food, drink, or other vendor products. In addition, we participate as community support and in youth events.
History:
Unity Council is in its eighth year of operation. Each year we have successfully conducted the Celebration Cultures Festival with donations and support from the community and corporate sponsorships. Attendance is continually growing.
