Description:
Margaret McLaughlin McCarrick Care Center is a not-for-profit skilled nursing facility located in Somerset, New Jersey. Sponsored by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Metuchen, McCarrick offers 120 skilled nursing beds for the elderly encountering difficulty living independently. McCarrick has been designed to provide complete assistance with the activities of daily living to each resident. McCarrick is owned and operated by Saint Peter’s University Hospital as part of the hospital’s commitment to providing central New Jersey’s most comprehensive health and medical program for the elderly. Residents have access to a broad array of qualified professional health services. McCarrick’s clinical programs are overseen by a certified Medical Director who is a board-certified geriatrician, and supported by geriatric clinical nurse specialists, geriatric social workers, an activities director, specially trained nurses and certified nursing assistants. Physical therapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy services are available five days a week in our sunny, well-equipped gym. Each of our therapists is highly skilled in evaluating residents with debilities and establishing realistic goals for them to achieve the highest level of pain-free living. McCarrick supports the use of pain management (palliative care) to ensure residents remain comfortable and at peace. We also provide a hospice program that serves the needs of the terminally ill and their families. Should any resident require hospitalization, Saint Peter’s University Hospital, a 422-bed major teaching hospital, is located just a few miles away. McCarrick Care Center is located on ten wooded acres. The peaceful rolling hills surrounding the facility are beautifully landscaped and inhabited by wild birds, deer, squirrels, and rabbits. In good weather, residents enjoy the large outdoor patio for activities or just to commune with nature. Although McCarrick has been decorated for comfort and a home-like atmosphere, we are also safety-conscious – our facilities include adequate lighting, handrails, and easy-to-read clocks. Our lounges have color televisions and reading materials in large type. We make it easy for residents to maintain their personal care and appearance. Each resident suite has a half-bath and each living area has two tub-shower rooms. Whirlpool baths are also available. A combination beauty shop / barber shop offers hairstyling. Our dietitians realize that restricted diets may need the spice of imagination to be appealing. The quality of food, good eating habits, and medically-correct diets are given special attention. We carefully follow each resident’s prescribed diet and strive to prepare exciting menus to make mealtime special. Residents enjoy meals in our bright dining rooms. Our Activities Department serves the mind, body, and spirit of our residents, and is a major part of McCarrick’s mission. Meeting people and socializing are important factors in promoting quality of life. All residents are encouraged to attend our recreational programs, crafts, and other social events. Many people benefit physically and emotionally from regular interaction with animals. A variety of well-behaved pets, including birds, rabbits, cats, and guinea pigs, are available throughout McCarrick to provide stimulation and companionship to our residents
