Our mission is to educate and inspire the public about the history of Roxbury Township; its place in the history of New Jersey; and its effect on the economic development of the area with special interest in the King family period from 1830 to 1930.

Description:
To manage and maintain the King Store and King Homestead, both on the National and State Registers of Historic Places.
To preserve, manage, and increase the archival collections of the Store and Homestead.
To develop educational programs and exhibits.
To raise funds to support these buildings.

History:
The King Store and Homestead, owned by the Township of Roxbury, were purchased by Greenacres funding in the 1980's. The Roxbury Rotary Club was was responsible for the initial renovation of the Store and later, the Homestead. The Roxbury Historic Trust was established in June of 2000 to maintain the buildings and act as curator. It is an all volunteer program. Funding for the restoration has been received from successful grant requests, donations from Roxbury Township, the Rotary, members and individuals.

The Store is a 2 and 1/2 story rubble stone building, circa 1815, and is regarded as a signature Canal store. The store also served as a general Post Office for many years.

The Homestead, circa 1881, is a vernacular frame house with additions of Italianate and Queen Ann influenced detailing.

As an all volunteer organization, we are looking for individuals who share an interest in history and who would like to work in our museums cataloging artifacts; fund raising; preparing educational programs; acting as liason to local schools; and being docents (museum guides) for visitors. Hours for volunteers are flexible and based primarily on their time availability. Contact people are George Wien, president, and Miriam Morris, vice president.
