The Franklin Township Food Bank's primary mission is to provide emergency supplies of food to Franklin Township residents in need. Through its Working Persons' Wardrobe the Food Bank also provides clothing suitable for people to wear primarily to job interviews and work settings.
Description:
The Food Bank collects donations of food and clothing from local individuals, houses of worship, schools, non-profit groups, businesses, and professionals. It also solicits financial support through periodic mailings and special events. The part-time staff and dedicated volunteers package the food into types and quantities suitable for various family/household sizes. They also sort and arrange the clothing and schedule appointments. They distribute the food packages and clothing to people in need who come to the Food Bank, which is open five days per week, year-round.
History:
The Food Bank was started as the South Somerset Emergency Food Bank in 1975 at the Middlebush Reformed Church. It was then an all-volunteer organization whose purpose was to collect and distribute emergency food during Holidays. The Food Bank became incorporated in 1982 as a result of the work of many supporters and the Somerset Ministerial Association. The Food Bank's current facility was completed in 2002.
