Responds to persons calling the Clearinghouse for information on local support groups across the State, as well as some calls from across the country from those seeking national or online groups. Using a computer (minimal typing), volunteer looks up contact information for the appropriate groups in the caller's area. Takes requests for help to begin new self-help groups, and other Clearinghouse services. Some volunteers help with the updating by contacting local self-help groups, or other clerical work as needed. One-on-one training is provided for several sessions and then on-going, as needed. We have a desperate need for volunteers on Mon. and Fri., 9 or 9:30 AM to noon or 12:30 PM, and from 12:30 PM or 1PM to 4 or 4:30PM.

Volunteers must be willing to work at least 3 hours per week, one morning or afternoon each week. A free TB test and participation in a volunteer orientation, at Saint Clare's Health System in Denville, is required. Our callers are often embarking on a very sensitive time in their lives, whether they are calling regarding their own mental health, the death of a loved one, spousal abuse or their sexuality: our volunteers must be able to treat each one with the same care. Volunteers must also be able to speak and understand English, although the ability to speak other languages is a plus.
