To engage people 55+ in volunteer services to meet critical community needs that impact and benefit citizens of all ages while providing a high quality experience that will enrich the life of the volunteer.
Description:
RSVP of Linn and Jones Counties focuses on volunteering in areas that have the most impact in our community. They include friendly visiting in nursing homes, meal delivery, transportation, food pantries, small claims mediation, insurance counseling, flu immunization clinics, tutoring children, mentoring young adults, preschool and income tax assistance. However, there are many other assignments available to RSVP volunteers. RSVP is sponsored by St. Luke's Hospital, Jones Regional Medical Center, United Way, the Heritage Agency and St. Luke's Healthcare Foundation.
History:
An amendment to the Older Americans Act in 1969 created the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program. The Linn County RSVP began in 1981. RSVP has been in the community for over 23 years, contributing thousands of hours to local non-profit agencies. The program was expanded to Jones County in 2005.
