The Witwer Center is a primary community resource for active older adult services. The Witwer Center supports older adults by providing Social & Leisure Activities, Life-Long Learning Programs, Nutrition Services & Health Promotion & Prevention opportunities.
Description:
Witwer's focus is innovating and dynamic programming to support the "successful aging process" Witwer Center accomplishes this by providing older adults in the Linn County area quality programs and activities through 4 Centers of Excellence: Nutrition, Leisure & Social Activities, Life-Long Learning and Health Promotion and Wellness. We are implementing new and different activities, partnering with other organizations and teaming up with local businesses to expand programming and offer more of what today's older adults want.
History:
The Witwer Center opened its doors over 25 years ago for the Seniors of Cedar Rapids to enjoy social activities and hot noon meals seven days per week. The project was the vision of a very active community leader and volunteer. The nutrition program initially served the Witwer Center Site and has expanded throughout the years to nine other Linn County Communities. In response to an increase in the older adult population and identified needs of older adults and their families, Witwer has developed and expanded programs that now serve in excess of 6,000 older adults annually.
