Founded by legendary environmental activist David Brower in 1982, Earth Island Institute www.earthisland.org grows environmental leadership through the fiscal sponsorship of more than 40 citizen-led projects around the world. As we approach our 25th Anniversary, we have additional needs for research and planning, and for specific short-term projects to enhance the effectiveness of our staff. Collaborating with a student intern on the New Leaders Initiative will help us focus on relevant and cutting-edge advances in student campaign and environmental work.

For 25 years, Earth Island has been committed to mentoring young, emerging environmental leaders. 2007 will mark the 25th anniversary of Earth Island Institute and the vision that a nimble, streamlined organization could make possible the work of bold individuals with big ideas.

Description:
Earth Island’s projects seek progressive and achievable solutions to the many challenges our planet faces today from protection of the smallest living creatures that make up coral reefs to environmental education and social justice for at-risk inner-city youth.

History:
Earth Island has launched over 100 projects in 25 years. Notable alumni include Rainforest Action Network, International Marine Mammal Project, Urban Habitat, International Rivers Network, and Bluewater Network.
