We provide transitional housing and case management for homeless or soon to be homeless families with under age children on the eastside. We consider ourselves to be one link in the chain of required services to address homelessness. We do not accept families with current drug or alcohol problems due to the specialized services required for those individuals.
Description:
We have 12 units of transitional housing, 8 in Bellevue and 4 in Kirkland. Our client selection and case management is provided by Kirkland interfaith transitions in Housing ( KITH).
History:
We began our efforts in 1989 and housed our first family in 1990. We received 4 units in 1999 that we had been using since the early 1990's and a duplex from Windermere Foundation in the late 1990's. We received the "Best of Bellevue" award for most efficiently run charity. HAC is an all volunteer organization except for case management which is provided via contract to KITH. We have been over 90% effective in placing our clients into permanent housing. We are currently looking for two new board members. We meet every 2nd Wednesday of the month and there is a little sub committee work between meetings.
