NAMI Maryland is a statewide organization, with fourteen local affiliates, dedicated to advocacy for and education of persons with serious brain disorders/mental illnesses, their families and the community.
Description:
NAMI Maryland provides the following statewide services: Operates a statewide helpline to assist individuals with accessing mental health resources. Publishes a quarterly newsletter with information on mental health issues. Hosts an annual education conference to educate members and the public on timely issues related to mental illness. Publishes and distributes psychiatric emergency brochure and other printed materials to help the families, individuals and the public with mental health information. Provides training to teachers and facilitators of NAMI educational courses and support group services for families and consumers throughout the State. Programs include Family-to-Family; Peer-to-Peer and In Our Own Voice and Family and Consumer support groups. Provides statewide advocacy on behalf of person with mental illness and their families for the public and private resources needed to assure the availability, accessibility and quality of comprehensive mental health services throughout the State and for research for causes and cures of serious mental illness.
History:
NAMI Maryland was incorporated January 31, 1983, to perform charitable, educational and scientific activies in order to import the con ditions of, and to stimulate the develpment of needed services for, mentally ill persons in the State of Maryland. Listed above
