The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.
Description:
The Salvation Army in El Paso has two churches (corps), a Thrift Store, Senior Citizen apartments, a daily soup kitchen, food pantry, and a Family Shelter which houses approximately 100 people a night. Through the Shelter families are given every opportunity to find jobs, training or education. Other services: Emergency Disaster Relief, Human Trafficking, Military/Veteran Assistance, Hot showers for the homeless, Clothing and furniture to families, Missing persons service, Planned giving seminars, Thanksgiving and Christmas meals, and Christmas Angel Trees.
History:
The Salvation Army began in London, England in 1865 quickly spreading throughout the world. It has served El Paso since 1898 changing its areas of service to meet the needs of the time. Serving the homeless has always been its major focus.
