Anna's Ride Home
[ View Board Connections Position ]
Last updated on March 29, 2008

Anna's Ride Home's vision is to prevent deaths from drunk driving.

Our program promotes responsible choices concerning drinking and driving, and supports individuals who choose a safe ride home.

Description:
Anna's Ride Home partners with bars, taxi companies, community organizations and corporations to provide safe rides home to individuals too intoxicated to drive.

Since 2003 Anna's Ride Home has partnered with 25 drinking establishments in Bremerton, Kirkland, Mill Creek, Port Orchard, Renton, Seattle and Tacoma and has given over 3,000 safe rides home.

Anna's Ride Home isn't just about the person getting the ride home, it's about everyone else who could have been on the road with them - had they driven home intoxicated.

History:
Anna White was a designated driver. When her friends went to a club to dance or to a house party she was always prepared to get everyone home safely, even if to do so meant driving hours out of her way at the end of the night.

On September 9, 2002, two days before her twenty-second birthday, Anna was tragically killed by a drunk driver in Los Angeles, California.

Her parents, Barbara and Asher White, knew they wanted to honor her memory, so they, along with family and friends founded the Anna Armstrong White Foundation, a 501 (c) 3 organization.

In 2003 they launched an innovative program in Puget Sound to honor Anna's actions in life. Anna's Ride Home was designed specifically to keep intoxicated bar patrons from getting behind the wheel after drinking.

Anna's Ride Home's first partnership was with Lucky 7 in Kirkland, Washington. Bar partner staff offer intoxicated bar patrons a free cab ride home, the cost of which is split between the partnering establishment and the Anna Armstrong White Foundation.
