Our mission is to develop a first of its kind, assisted living facility that specializes in Parkinson's care and training. The Parkinson's Supportive Living Residence will create a vibrant community that accepts each individual's hopes and fears through developing a living environment that addresses the progression and unpredictability of Parkinson's disease in a manner that coordinates personal care on three levels--physical, psychological and emotional.
Description:
PuSH fro PD is an organization of individuals with Parkinson's disease (PD), their families and friends, medical and allied health providers, caregivers and community supporters. Board members bring a variety of skills and expertise to the organization, including financial, medical, social services, nutritional and business. In addition to the Board of Directors, there is an Advisory Board that provides additional expertise. Because providing this type of specialized care is a new concept and something that has not been done before, we are committed to incorporating as many best practices of PD care as possible. We have a strong vision for the many components that go into creating a positive, living environment. We believe we are on the cutting edge of providing quality care for people requiring assisted living or nursing home care.
History:
PuSH for PD was formed as a private, not for profit 501c3 organization in 2005. Prior to formation, a group of individuals in the Parkinson's community met for several years exploring options and researching the need for improved residential care. This grew out of personal experience of many individuals having not been able to find appropriate care for their loved ones. These individuals bring professional and life experiences combined with business acumen and a passion to make a difference in the lives of individuals with Parkinson's disease and their families. To date, the organization has completed the conceptual plan for the facility, a pro-forma, a pre-program architectural plan, extensive research into other models of care and initial fundraising. We are currently developing a website, setting up a database management system and creating partnerships with other organizations that will partner with us in the creation of the Residence & Learning Center.
