History:
The Filipino American National Historical Society (FANHS)is a community-based organization founded in Seattle in 1982. Our 27 chapters gather the history of their geographic regions. The National Office, some chapters and members have produced books. FANHS also has published journals, newsletters, developed videos and photo exhibits. Our ever-growing FANHS National Pinoy Archives in Seattle is the largest collection of Filipino American historical materials in the United States. All this is done with a volunteer staff committed to the mission. FANHS has over 3,000 historic photographs and documents and 200 oral histories - some transcribed. FANHS' collections and expertise have been shared with hundreds of authors, scholars doing research, filmmakers, educators, teachers, students and ordinary people looking for family or personal information.
FANHS also conducts public programs including eleven biennial national conferences in different cities. These programs give Filipino American scholars, writers, academic and community historians and community people from around the nation the opportunity to share their expertise in the form of panels, roundtables, workshops and exhibits. Thousands have been touched by these different projects.
