Last updated on August 24, 2007

The mission of the King County Coalition Against Domestic Violence (KCCADV) is to work to end domestic violence by facilitating collective action for social change. In county-wide public policy and education efforts, the Coalition provides leadership on behalf of community based victim service agencies and their allies. The Coalition strives to represent the diverse interests of victims and survivors of domestic violence.

Description:
KCCADV is a Coalition of Domestic Violence Victim Service Agencies and their allies. Established in 1990, the King County Coalition Against Domestic Violence provides crucial leadership on county-wide public policy and education efforts, strengthens the capacity of victim services and allied organizations through training and technical assistance, and serves as a central resource where government officials, services agencies, the media, and community members get information about domestic violence and victim services in King County. The Coalition has been instrumental in working to protect funding for victim services, improving the delivery of services to all areas of the County, and increasing community awareness about domestic violence.

History:
KCCADV was established in 1990 by volunteer victim service providers and community members, and has grown to now have 2 full time staff. Accomplishments in the past 5 years have been:
--successfully protected over $15 million in local funding for critical regional human services,
--worked directly with Senators Cantwell and Murray to ensure passage of the 2005 Violence Against Women Act, providing millions of dollars for criminal justice and community based domestic violence services
--helped secure federal funding for 2 major efforts to improve services for children affected by domestic violence
--launched the "Take Action" campaign, which raises awareness about how to get involved in efforts to end domestic violence and recognizes community members for their exemplary actions at an annual awards event.
