Agathos Foundation seeks to provide healthy living communities for the 14 million children in Africa orphaned as a result of the AIDS crisis.
Description:
Agathos Foundation purchases productive and healthy farms, which serve as a source of funds to sustain an orphan village built on the farm property. Agathos is a Christian organization, and works with many different churches in Africa and in the US. After the initial capital investment, the orphanage is self-sustaining, with operational support provided by a local church, and back-up financial support provided by a partner US church. Our goal is to be an organic part of the local community, supporting families as they deal with the consequences of AIDS.
History:
Agathos was founded in 2002 by Everett resident Rob Smith, a cabinet maker and former South African farmer. We have so far established orphanages in South Africa and Zambia, and hope to establish many more.
