The purpose of this organization is to support high school students, in South King County, in earning their high school diploma, as well as preparing students for their unique future(s) i.e. college, trade/technical school or direct entry into the workplace.

Description:
TAKE ACTION is a long-term enrichment program committed to cultivating the potential of talented young people of color and children from low income families, in South King County.
Our program structure involves partnering with local high schools and implementing a series of programs throughout the year. The four major platforms consist of a 9th Grade Career Day, Annual Youth Symposium, Life/Career Seminars and Community Service Projects.

The High School Career Day Series (9th Graders)brings to the school a cadre of young professionals, from diverse ethnic backgrounds to speak about their careers and how their high school experiences helped to shape their future.
Goal: Engage students in real life success stories, in order to get them excited about Take Action programming which will help them to fulfill their dreams. Also, to develop a pipeline of future young professionals that will return to the organization and share their experiences with future students.

The Professional/Life Skills Seminars (9th Graders) provides a Series of interactive based learning sessions. Seminar topics include study skills, social skills, basic personal financial management skills, communication skills, and work skills (i.e. job interviews, resume building, building healthy relationships, identifying vision and creating a plan of action)
Goal: Reinforce the information taught in school but better equip students with real world skills to improve their self-efficacy.

Community Service Projects (9th Graders) provide students with additional exposure to young professionals as they work together in a safe and positive environment, addressing community needs in South King County
Goal: To create a sense of pride and ownership within the students. Community
service fosters awareness that the students are a part of something bigger than
themselves and their lives have meaning.

The Annual Youth Symposium (8th & 9th Graders)provides a professional forum for students with direct interaction to a panel of young professionals to discuss education, career choices, health, finance, technology, decision making and relationships. Event partners will include Planned Parenthood, Community & Technical Colleges, the fire department and more.
Goal: Create an environment where students can dress and act professional, teaching them additional life skills that are important for life after high school.
