Artist Trust is a not-for-profit organization whose sole mission is to support and encourage individual artists working in all disciplines in order to enrich community life throughout Washington State. To accomplish its mission, Artist Trust raises funds from an array of sources in order to: Give financial grants, through a peer review process, to individual artists working in the visual, performing, media, literary, and interdisciplinary arts; Serve as a professional information resource for artists and encourage artists to support each other; and, Provide recognition and support for the contributions artists make to the lives of people of Washington State and for the merit and integrity of artists' work.
Description:
Artist Trust supports art at its source — the creative individual. For the past 20 years, Artist Trust has been committed to providing artists the time and resources necessary to prosper. We deliver information to thousands of artists each year, and have granted more than $3.1 million in direct support to over 1,400 of Washington State’s most promising and respected musicians, writers, visual and craft artists, playwrights, choreographers, composers, performers and filmmakers. Artist Trust's vital services, unduplicated in the Northwest, serve as a national model for artist support. As the only organization in Washington State, and one of few nationally, that is exclusively devoted to individual artists of all disciplines, Artist Trust is a sound investment in the culture of the Northwest.
History:
Artist Trust was founded in 1987 by a group of artists and artist supporters who sought a creative way to remedy the lack of support for individual artists of all disciplines in Washington State. These visionaries saw a special opportunity to develop a unique model which could provide artists with resources to develop their work, and thus enrich their communities with new works of art. Artist Trust was launched with a carefully designed set of core programs of Grants and Information Services. Each year Artist Trust directly serves more than 8,500 artists through its core programs of Grants and Information Services. Since 1987, over 1,400 artists have been awarded grants totaling $3.2m
