RSVP of King County is a federally funded program whose mission is to encourage people 55 and older to volunteer in their community and then to support their service.
Description:
We work to achieve our mission by carefully choosing our partner sites to ensure that our volunteers will have a successful and meaningful volunteer experience. We provide individual attention to finding you a volunteer site and then, if you need it, we can provide a mileage reimbursement (or bus pass) to help you get to and from your site. RSVP also provides supplemental insurance coverage while you are traveling to your site and volunteering. We currently have 2000 registered volunteers working in 96 sites throughout King County. In 2006, volunteers provided 275,000 hours of service to the community!
History:
Created by Congress in 1969 and launched in 1971, RSVP is designed to provide meaningful volunteer opportunities for people 55 years of age and older. RSVP came to Seattle under the sponsorship of United Way in September 1972, and in August 1973, the City of Bellevue sponsored the Eastside RSVP. January 1978 saw the merging of the two under the administration of the Seattle/King County Chapter of the American Red Cross. Then, in January 1994, the Fremont Public Association became the local sponsoring agency for the King County RSVP. In 2007 the Fremont Public Association changed it's name to Solid Ground.
