Description:
Teens In Public Service (TIPS) develops future leaders committed to their communities. TIPS offers young leaders, ages 15-19 years-old, paid community service internships in local non-profits throughout the Seattle area. Each TIPS internship is unique, based on the skills of the intern, and the needs of the non-profit organization. TIPS teens serve Seattle’s hungry and homeless, mentor disadvantaged children and open the eyes of at-risk youth to the power of art, culture and education. They work to preserve the natural habitat of our region as well as bring joy to the lives of the elderly, hospital patients and those living with special needs. TIPS interns are exposed to the importance of service and dedication, and their passion becomes contagious to their friends and family.

History:
TIPS was co-founded by Maureen Brotherton and her daughter, Tia Heim, in 1997 with just 11 interns serving 7 non-profit organizations. TIPS will begin its tenth summer with 55 interns working in over 40 non-profit organizations.

Since the inception of the TIPS program, over 350 young leaders have served more than 70 organizations. TIPS teens worked 8,500 hours at our non-profit placements during the summer of 2005.
