The A.P.P.L.E. Parenting Program (A Positive Parenting Learning Experience) is a free parent education and family support program open to all families in the community who have children between the ages of one month and eight years.
Description:
A.P.P.L.E. Parenting currently offers two family support programs: 1. Eleven-week Parenting Classes for parents and their children from birth through eight years: The curriculum focuses on positive discipline, parent-child communication, and stress and anger management. Children's programs for children under nine years of age serve as childcare while parents are in class. These classes also include a Parent-child interaction "lab" with parents and children playing together, cooking, or making crafts. This provides an opportunity for parents to practice the skills taught in class and to have a good time with their children. 2. Baby and Me Classes for parents and their infants: (birth through eighteen months): The Baby-and-Me curriculum focuses on basic infant care, child development, early brain growth, safety, CPR, beginning discipline, and stress and anger management.
History:
A.P.P.L.E. Parenting began in 1985 with a state grant focusing on the needs of court referred parents. The program was originally administered through Highline West Seattle Mental Health. South Seattle Community College assumed responsibility for the Program in 1999. A.P.P.L.E. Parenting is available for all families in the community.
