Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with God and people everywhere, from all walks of life, to develop communities with people in need by building and renovating houses, so that there are decent houses in decent communities in which every person can experience God' love and can live and grow into all that God intends.

Description:
Habitat for Humanity of East King County (HfHEKC) is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, which operates independently but has the same mission and goals as Habitat for Humanity International. The Eastside chapter is one of 30+ Habitat affiliates in Washington State. We follow the guidelines of the International organization in Americus, Georgia, but like all affiliates, we are an autonomous group with our own local board of directors.

Our goal is to lay a foundation for a stronger community by working with people who are dedicated to building a better life for themselves. To achieve this goal, we depend on donated land, labor, money, and materials from citizens, faith communities, and local businesses. We accept government funding only in the form of land donations or funding for land acquisition and development.

Volunteers of all skill levels (there is a youth policy, please see the Volunteer page) come out to the site to work together with the homeowners and Habitat staff in a cooperative partnership to construct our homes. This is a fun and rewarding way to spend the day.
Our homes are sold to:

Families making less than 50% of the median income for the Eastside. This is generally families making 11-15 dollars an hour.
Families that have lived or worked on the Eastside for 1 year.
Families with a housing need.
Families willing to put in 500 hours of 'Sweat Equity' construction work on their home or the home of a Habitat neighbor. This labor is the down payment on their Habitat house.

History:
Since it's founding by Bob and Shirley Patterson in 1988, this affiliate has built 71 homes in the cities of Carnation, Sammamish, Issaquah, Bellevue, Kirkland, Newcastle, and Snoqualmie. Our service area is from Issaquah to Bothell and East to North Bend. The goal of this affiliate is to make it possible for low-income Eastside residents to be able to purchase simple decent affordable homes. We are currently building 6 homes in Redmond and 7 homes in Snoqualmie.
